Trauma may have lasting adverse effects on an individual’s ability to function and their mental, physical, social, emotional or spiritual well-being. Trauma-informed care is a requirement from CMS for residents who are trauma survivors. This activity presents information about trauma, how trauma impacts an individual, triggers for trauma, and providing trauma-informed care in the long-term care setting.
Upon completion, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the process of identifying survivors of trauma, potential triggers, and care considerations.
- Provide person-centered, trauma-informed care to residents who are trauma survivors that incorporates their experiences and preferences to eliminate or mitigate re-traumatization.
This course is 30 minutes and designed for nurses and other staff working in long-term care settings. Other interested healthcare providers are welcome to participate. CNE credit may apply.
