Senior Accounting Assistant 
Finance Department

Position Summary:
Responsible for preparing and posting journal entries, account analysis, running general ledger software and fixed asset software for LAMMICO and Elatas Risk Partners. Prepares reports for the Investment and Budget Committee as well as work papers and reconciliations for the Annual and Quarterly Statements.

Reporting Relationship:
Reports directly to the Controller

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Works in a cooperative manner with management, coworkers, customers, and vendors; seeks to support LAMMICO’s mission and vision in daily operations
  • Contributes to the development of the department’s strategic and operating planning and meets assigned target dates and budget goals; helps ensure that department quality, service, and productivity standards are met
  • Works directly with the in-house Certified Public Accountants to prepare regulatory filings, and financial statements, as well as special projects in which the CPA’s are involved
  • Review invoices for proper coding
  • Assists in developing procedures related to accounting processes
  • Coordinates and monitors timelines and activities associated with maintaining the general ledge
  • Analyzes records of financial transactions to determine accuracy and completeness of entries
  • Compiles data for preparation and analyses of reports
  • Prepares, posts and records journal entries
  • Prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement and other financial reports and work papers for the Quarterly and Annual regulatory filings
  • Reconciles several general ledger accounts, including complex reconciliations, to determine accuracy of balances, and investigates differences
  • Assists in the monthly preparation of the insurance agency subsidiary financial statements and reconciliations
  • Prepares complex work papers for significant portions of the quarterly and annual statements
  • Assists with banking activities and performing wire transfers
  • Maintains subsidiary accounting software and fixed asset software with outside vendors and IT staff
  • Serves as a resource for the accounting assistants to ask questions and get help resolving issues
  • Under supervision of CPA’s and in accordance with established procedures, performs accounting work that is complex and varied in nature, requiring some evaluation, originality and innovation
  • Updates fixed asset sub ledger and maintain list of disposed assets
  • Works to provide information and answer questions of external auditors during audits and examinations
  • Assists in processing and mailing of 1099’s and dividend checks
  • Work with Senior Accountant on maintaining listing of Letters of Credit for insureds with deductibles

Secondary Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Other responsibilities and special projects as assigned
  • Member of finance departmental committees and task forces
  • Back up for bank transfers, check printing, processing of checks, and cash receipts

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

  • High school diploma or associate degree in accounting
  • College/Professional continuing education (post high school) of at least 3 business classes
  • Five years of accounting experience
  • Proficiency in Excel spreadsheets
  • Strong customer focus and team orientation
  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential or sensitive company information
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact and work effectively with employees at all
    levels within the organization
  • Ability to manage time, set priorities, and work independently
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Programs

Education, Experience and Skills Desired:

  • Insurance industry experience
  • Experience with Solomon
  • Experience with PowerPoint, Word and Excel
  • Working knowledge of medical malpractice products and coverages
