Healthcare Risk Manager
Risk Management and Patient Safety Department

Position Summary: 
Contributes to the Risk Management (RM) plan by identifying, analyzing, reducing general and professional liability risk for LAMMICO insureds. Participates in the development and implementation of the RM professional liability (PL) and general liability (GL) program for insureds. Works in conjunction with the Regional Risk Managers, Hospital Risk Management Specialist and Long-Term Facility Specialists to evaluate and implement risk management interventions. Responsible for maintaining RM sections of LAMMICO/MI websites. Responsible for maintaining RM reference library.  

Reporting Relationship:
Reports directly to the Manager of Risk Management and Patient Safety

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Works in a cooperative manner with management, coworkers, customers, and vendors; seeks to support LAMMICO’s mission and vision in daily operations
  • Contributes to the development of the department’s strategic and operating planning and meets assigned target dates and objectives; helps ensure that department quality, service and productivity standards are met
  • Conducts review and analysis of general and professional liability claims for healthcare facility insureds in conjunction with Regional Risk Managers, Hospital RM Specialist and Long-Term Care Facility Specialist
  • Conducts risk assessments for healthcare facilities and practices; provides insureds with loss prevention and loss control interventions that are consistent with RM principles
  • Provides RM consultation (in person and on phone) to insureds
  • Develops and presents live and online RM education seminars to medical providers and facility staff
  • Conducts PL/GL loss analysis for healthcare facilities based on internal and external data/information
  • Evaluates general liability losses, make comparisons to the book of business, and draws conclusions for developing and implementing loss prevention and loss control interventions
  • Provide reports to LAMMICO committees regarding facility insured’s risk profile
  • Serves as general liability RM expert to LAMMICO insureds
  • Maintains RM department reference library
  • Periodically reviews and updates RM sections of LAMMICO website and hospital and facility sections of the MI website
  • Maintains RM policies and procedures

Secondary Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Other responsibilities and special projects as assigned
  • Attends LAMMICO seminars relevant to general liability
  • Attends seminars/conferences for LAMMICO’s marketing department, as assigned

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or other Healthcare related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in the Risk Management, quality improvement, facility services, claims, insurance, or other healthcare-related field
  • Formal presentation skills
  • Experience interacting with healthcare professionals
  • Strong motivation, creativity, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to prepare and effectively present comprehensive written and verbal reports and recommendations
  • Strong customer focus and team orientation
  • Commitment to continuing industry and individual functional education
  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive company
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to interact and work effectively with employees at all levels within and outside of the organization
  • Ability to manage time, set priorities, and work independently and in cooperation with others when appropriate; ability to organize, analyze, and interpret information
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs
  • Must have continuous and uninterrupted access to reliable transportation; must maintain driver’s license and insurance as required by state
  • Available for overnight travel; frequent travel up to 50% of the time with some overnight stay required

Education, Experience and Skills Desired:

  • CHESP, CHFM, ARM, CPHRM or other insurance certification
  • Experience in healthcare
  • Master’s degree in healthcare or insurance-related fields
