In an ongoing effort to streamline requirements and focus on patient safety and quality, The Joint Commission will eliminate 200 more standards from its various accreditation programs for hospitals, ambulatory healthcare and others. While there will be fewer standards after this update happens August 27, 2023, the remaining standards are designed to be more meaningful and efficient.

Of note in the hospital and critical access hospital sections, there are revisions to standards on falls prevention and on critical results of tests and diagnostic procedures.

The Joint Commission issued this press release about these updates.
