The FBI recently released a report, "Unpatched and Outdated Medical Devices Provide Cyber Attack Opportunities." In it, they provide recommendations to help mitigate the cyber risks posed by medical devices due to outdated software and a lack of security features in older hardware. These vulnerabilities could negatively impact hospital and facility operations and data, as well as patient safety.
The report notes " ... medical devices that are susceptible to cyber attacks include insulin pumps, intracardiac defibrillators, mobile cardiac telemetry, pacemakers, and intrathecal pain pumps. Malign actors who compromise these devices can direct them to give inaccurate readings, administer drug overdoses, or otherwise endanger patient health."
